When the month began, I set a modest goal: to exercise each and every day during September.
Today, after a 40-minute swim, I can say I met my goal. Finally.
I’d set out to do this so many times this year, but for one reason or another – travel, minor illness or injury – it never happened.
I didn’t go anywhere this month and I stayed healthy – mostly. Oddly enough, I met my goal without a single day of running. *
That left-leg injury I incurred when I tripped and fell on asphalt last month healed just fine. But it led to something else – plantar fasciitis in my right heel. Would have been way too painful to try to run through it, not to mention foolish.
Ah, well.
At least I can look back on 30 days of swimming, lifting weights, riding a bike and plugging away on the elliptical.
Sure will be nice, though, to get back to running.

* Correction: After I posted this, I went back and discovered I'd actually run once in September: a good long one on Hoyt Arboretum trails on Labor Day. Since then, been on the DL. No fun.
